# Roger Pincombe

I am an experienced engineering leader, product creator, and full stack engineer. I have over a decade of broad experience with technologies, industries, and scales of operation, having founded multiple startups in the AI and Ad-Tech industries, worked at enterprises as notable as Microsoft and Salesforce, won over 15 hackathons, and regularly built new products for fun or freelance. My engineering often involves machine learning, web scraping, and integrating many disparate systems. Some of my more interesting personal projects include the OpenAI GPT3 .Net SDK, the AllThePeople.net social media data mining system, and a teleprompter for Google Glass. Additionally, I started and run a major San Francisco live theater venue and am experienced at presenting at conferences and managing events in both professional and entertainment contexts. I am based in San Francisco but value location flexibility.

I don't write new posts very often, but here are some of the things I've created:

## [Announcing BeeMCP: Connecting Your Bee Lifelogger to AI via the Model Context Protocol](https://rogerpincombe.com/beemcp)

2025-03-31

I'm excited to introduce **BeeMCP**, an unofficial Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that connects your Bee wearable—a device designed to capture and summarize your conversations, locations, and notes—with AI chatbots like Claude Desktop, allowing you to interactively query your own recorded experiences, manage tasks, and retrieve context effortlessly. Give BeeMCP a try to start exploring this seamless integration of personal data and AI.

## [Frame Smart Glasses Developer SDK](https://rogerpincombe.com/frame-sdk)

2024-08-04

How I helped Brilliant Labs launch developer SDKs for the Frame wearable smart glasses. If you want to build something for the best smart glasses I’ve seen in a decade, now it’s easy to get started!

## [Doppler: VIP Access to You](https://rogerpincombe.com/doppler)

2023-07-02

We’re at an exciting juncture in Large Language Models where they are very good at chatting in the persona of other people, if given appropriate prompting and examples. There have been a few headlines recently of people using Replika or Character AI to make chatbots versions of real people like Elon Musk to talk with. Of course, there are plenty of concerns about ethics, copyright, and control. If you are Elon Musk, you probably want some control over what this chatbot of you says to people. And if you’re a smaller celebrity or social media influencer, you also want to be able to monetize any chatbot of you.

## [Weekend project: Domainotron.com uses GPT3 to help you find a great domain name ](https://rogerpincombe.com/domainotron)

2023-05-20

Over the last weekend I built [Domainotron.com](https://domainotron.com/), which uses fancy OpenAI GPT-3 AI to generate domain names for you, and then shows you the best available domain names. It’s free, accurate, fast, and surprisingly creative. And I built it in a weekend using an AI-enhanced IDE (more on that below).

## [OpenAI API for C# / .NET](https://rogerpincombe.com/openai-dotnet-api)

2020-07-22

If you haven't seen all the amazing things people are getting the new [OpenAI GPT-3 API](https://beta.openai.com/) to do, it's definitely worth taking a look.

## [Alice's Moment](https://rogerpincombe.com/alices-moment)

2019-05-04

I'm excited to share a new ecommerce site I recently built: [Alice's Moment](https://alicesmoment.com/). Alice's Moment designs and makes (by hand!) unique photo-based handbags that are super stylish. I've been honored to be able to build their ecommerce site and help with their social media branding. Check it out yourself at [https://alicesmoment.com](https://alicesmoment.com/), and follow on Instagram [@AlicesMoment](https://www.instagram.com/alicesmoment/).

## [Upload and Paste](https://rogerpincombe.com/upload-and-paste)

2018-12-11

I made a small Windows tool that allows you to paste the contents of the clipboard as plaintext (removing formatting). Additionally it automatically uploads images and files on the clipboard to a server and pastes the url. This provides functionality similar to CloudApp, except on your own server for free. It supports FTP, SFTP, SCP, AWS S3, and WebDav, via the included WinSCP library.

## [Machine Learning for Everyone](https://rogerpincombe.com/machine-learning-for-everyone)

2017-08-24

I've always found machine learning interesting, way back to some neural network toy programs I wrote in C# over a decade ago. But as the excitement around ML has been heating up over the past year, I've been learning more about the cutting edge of the algorithms, platforms, and applications of modern machine learning. It's an amazingly exciting field and I firmly believe the most important area of active research in tech.

## [Ending a relationship is difficult, let a bot do it for you](https://rogerpincombe.com/stop.dating-bot)

2016-07-11

We were promised a world where computers do our bidding, where intelligent bots handle the unpleasant work and leave humans free to enjoy life on their own terms. But what is more unpleasant and emotionally taxing than breaking off a relationship that has run its course? It's time for a bot to step up and relieve us of our burdens!

## [Wearables XP Glass Edition](https://rogerpincombe.com/wearables-xp-glass-edition)

2014-11-30

I used to love Windows XP Tablet PC Edition. In 2007 I bought a used [Motion Computing tablet PC](https://pencomputing.com/frames/tpc_motion1200.html) from a doctor's office. It was a crappy computer: text input was extremely painful, the stylus wouldn't properly calibrate, and there was no touch input. It wasn't a reimagined computing experience, it was just a crippled laptop. But it was so amazing to hold a keyboardless laptop! This wasn't the future exactly, but it was a taste of tablet computing, and it felt exhilarating to be on the edge of a completely reinvented form factor. It took several years before Apple overhauled the tablet experience and the idea gained mainstream acceptance, and even then the iPad owed a lot to the attempts that came before it.

## [Karaoke for Google Glass](https://rogerpincombe.com/glass-karaoke)

2014-03-13

A prototype of my [Google Glass Karaoke app on YouTube](https://youtu.be/DFVAHl78ldY)! Just say “ok Glass, sing a song” followed by any song, and Glass Karaoke will play the songs on speakers and display the time-synced lyrics right in front of your eyes. Built in 24 sleepless hours at the [South by Southwest Music Hackathon](https://sxsw.com/music/hackathon).

## [GlassPrompter, the Google Glass Teleprompter](https://rogerpincombe.com/glassprompter)

2014-01-21

Ever since I first got my Google Glass in May I've been wanting to build a teleprompter for it. I compete in a lot of hackathons and present onstage a lot, and normally I read my speech off my iPad, but it's awkward to be looking down reading from that.

## [Set Phasers to Disrupt](https://rogerpincombe.com/set-phasers-to-disrupt)

2012-09-07

Time for [even more hackathons](https://rog.gy/hackathons). First up this month, I'll be at the [TechCrunch Disrupt SF Hackathon](https://techcrunch.com/events/disrupt-sf-hackathon-2012/), where I'm planning on building a PSaaS. Just what is a PSaaS? You'll have to wait and find out (no, Google won't help). Rest assured it will be [radical, impactful, and not very transparent](https://watch.vooza.com/post/27284828649/radimparency).

## [Not So Private?](https://rogerpincombe.com/not-so-private)

2012-06-08

Even the simplest internet privacy system is ineffective if people don't realize they should use it. Maybe if people know just how easily accessible their online data is, they will make the effort to protect themselves.

## [iPhone 4S, Meet The Palm Touchstone Inductive Charger](https://rogerpincombe.com/iphone-4s-meet-palm-touchstone-inductive-charger)

2011-10-17

It's obviously very early on and very cumbersome, but I have successfully got my new iPhone 4S to charge from my old Palm Pre's Touchstone inductive charger. I may not be using WebOS anymore (sadly), but the spirit of my Pre lives on. My goal is to bundle this up in a nice package that can be easily added to an iPhone 4 or 4S, and look good doing it. I'll post updates when I'm closer to that goal.

## [Call the Company – Quickly and easily call a human at any company for free](https://rogerpincombe.com/call-the-company)

2011-08-07

With your busy schedule, do you really want to spend so much time listening to phone menus and trying to find the right options? Use [Call the Company](https://callthecompany.com/) to directly call human representatives at major companies. Just type in the company and/or department you are searching for, and click to connect right in your browser so you don't have to use expensive cell phone or long-distance minutes.

## [Social Contact – Get Info for Anyone with 203-403-NAME](https://rogerpincombe.com/social-contact-info-203-403-name)

2011-07-10

There are plenty of ways to exchange contact information, but they generally require that people have the same app on the same type of smartphone, as well as requiring both parties to agree to share information. 203-403-NAME make this process extremely simple, by only requiring an online handle (username).

## [Office 2010 Style Ribbon Toolbar in HTML/CSS/JS](https://rogerpincombe.com/ribbon)

2011-06-08

I have created an implementation of the Office 2010 Ribbon toolbar that can be used in any website. It is written in HTML, CSS, and JS. Try a demo at [https://okgodoit.com/ribbon/](https://okgodoit.com/ribbon/) or watch the [video on YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5YOpn2W-fQ8). Download the source from [GitHub](https://github.com/OkGoDoIt/Office-Ribbon-2010).

## [Quick SMS Nutrition Information](https://rogerpincombe.com/quick-sms-nutrition-information)

2011-01-09

Text (415) 729-3599 with any food or beverage and it will tell you important nutrition facts in seconds. For example, I love the Western Cheese Fries at Longhorn Steakhouse, but I texted “longhorn cheese fries” to that number and found out one plate has over 1700 calories! Maybe next time I'll think twice about ordering it. How healthy is that Wendy's Southwest salad really? Text “southwest salad wendy's” and find out.

## [Headliner, a Windows Phone 7 RSS Reader](https://rogerpincombe.com/headliner-a-windows-phone-7-rss-reader)

2010-07-28

Over the past few days, some friends and I have been working nonstop on a windows phone application for the intern Windows Phone app competition. Tirelessly programming Saturday through Monday, we have created a pretty darn good RSS reader application, Headliner. I personally coded for 42 hours straight from Sunday morning until Monday night.

## [Domain Name Searching Tool](https://rogerpincombe.com/domain-name-searching-tool)

2009-12-20

I have been coming up with a lot of Web 2.0-ish ideas recently, but I often spend too much time trying to come up with a name that is an available domain name as well. There are some sites (such as my personal favorite, [domainnamesoup.com](https://domainnamesoup.com/)) that attempt to help you with this, but they end up taking quite a long time as you try various combinations of words and synonyms.

## [DialPrice: A VoIP price-checking service](https://rogerpincombe.com/dialprice-a-voip-price-checking-service)

2009-10-22

Back in March of 2008, Yahoo held a programming competition here at GA Tech, with the idea being that you take some web services (preferably Yahoo services) and mash them up to make something cool. Dubbed “HackU”, the idea was to hack something together in a week; it didn't have to be pretty, but it should do something different, novel, or useful.
